laminar molbloc elements were introduced in 1991. Enhanced laminar molbloc elements with serial numbers starting at 6000 were introduced in 2009 with the release of molbox1+ terminals. These molbloc elements have "named calibrations" and support premium class calibrations. Laminar molbloc elements were further improved with the introduction of molbox2 terminals in 2025 and are serial number 10000 and higher and their model names end with -2 (e.g., 3E4-L-2). Older molbloc elements with SN greater than 470 can be upgraded by Fluke to current models. When upgraded, their serial number has a plus (+) symbol or "+2" added at the end and their model name has "-2" added at the end. 

sonic molbloc elements were introduced in 2002. Enhanced sonic molbloc elements with serial numbers starting at 4000 were introduced in 2009 with the release of molbox1+ terminals. These molbloc elements have "named cals" and support premium class calibrations. Sonic molbloc elements were further improved with the introduction of molbox2 terminals in 2025 with serial numbers starting at 5000 and their model names end with -2 (e.g., 2E2-S-2). Older molbloc elements can be upgraded by Fluke to current models. When upgraded, their serial number has a plus (+) symbol or "+2" added at the end and their model name has "-2" added at the end. 

molbox1 flow terminals were introduced in 1991. molbox1+ terminals in 2009 and molbox2 terminals in 2025. molbox1 terminals do not support multiple "named cals" in a gas on a molbloc element. If a molbox1 terminal with SN greater than 300, and with current firmware, is used with a "named cal" molbloc,  the molbox1 terminal will show the name of the cal, but only the default cal in a gas can be viewed and used. If the molbox1 terminal does not have current firmware it will show "no bloc" when a "named cal" molbloc element is connected to it. Most molbox1 terminals and all molbox1+ terminals can be upgraded by Fluke to a molbox2 terminal. Upgraded terminals have “+2” added to their serial number on the label, for example SN 1417+2.

molbox RFM flow terminals were introduced in 1998 do not support multiple "named cals" in a gas. If used with a "named cal" molbloc the RFM will show the name of the cal but only the default cal in a gas can be viewed and used. And the RFM must have current firmware or will show "no bloc". molbox RFM flow terminals are no longer offered.

"Named cals" is short for named calibrations. A molbloc with "named cals" can have more than one calibration in each gas, and a molbox1+ can be used to select each cal, in each gas.

If a "named cal" molbloc is used with a molbox1 or RFM, only the default cal in a gas can be used. The default cal in a gas can be changed (details below).

molbloc elements without "named cals" can only have one cal per gas and this is the default cal. Additional cals can be done but are on a CD and molTools or molLoad software might be used to change the default cal on the molbloc.
