1. Connect the RS-232 cable to the rear panel of the 1586A and also to the heat source. The RS-232 cable must be a crossed type (NULL MODEM, Fluke PN: 2200962).
2. Set the Baud Rate to 2400 in the 1586A by pressing the key and then scroll down until you find “Temperature Source”. Press “Edit” to change the baud rate. Set the Baud Rate in the heat source to also 2400 by following the instructions for the heat source. The baud rate for both instruments needs to match before attempting to collect data.
3. Insert your reference PRT, RTD, SPRT, or Thermistor in the heat source as well as your DUTs (devices under test) and connect them to the High-capacity module or to the 1586A-2588 DAQ-STAQ (multiplexer). You can also use the channel 001 located in front of the 1586A (see picture below)
4. Press and then press F1 to edit the channels. The user needs to change the “Channel Status” to “ON”, and then scroll down to “Function” and edit this field. Here the user needs to select the type of probe (Thermocouple, Thermistor, PRT, DC voltage, or Resitance). Then do the same for all the other channels where the probes are connected. For more information in how to use the MX+B and the alarms please check the “users manual” from pg. 3-30 to 3-32 .
5. Once you finish setting up the channels press F4 “Test Setup” and the following screen will appear.
6. Press F3 “Trigger Type” to edit this field and then select “Automated Test”, and the following screen will apear: (For more information in how to configure “Automated Test” check the manual from pg. 4-16 to 4-18)
? Scan Count: Sets the number of readings for each temperature point.
? Sequence:
Linear: Scans the reference channel then all of the other enable channels
Alternate Reference: Scans the reference channel Ref1, Ch102, Optional Ref2.
For example: Ref1>Ch102>Ref2>Ref1>Ch103>Ref2>Ref1>C104>Ref2
Up/Down: Scans first channel Ref1, then all the other enable channels in ascending order followed by optional Ref2.
Then second reference Ref2 followed by all enable channels in descending order.
For example: Ref1>Ch102>Ch102>Ch103>Ref2>Ref2>h104>Ch103>Ch102>Ref1
? Reference Channel 1: Select the channel where the Reference#1 is located
Reference Channel 2 (optional): Select the channel where the Reference#2 is located
? Control Source: Edit and then set it to ON (this turns on the external heat source)
7. Now press F1 “Setpoints” and the following screen will appear:
? New: Creates a new set point
? Insert: Inserts a new setpoint in certain position
? Edit: Edits a setpoint
? Setpoint: It is used to set the temperature for the setpoint
? Tolerance: Sets the tolerance band limit around the setpoint. In order for the 1586A to start scanning the setpoint must be within the tolerance limit. Ex. Tolerance=±0.2°C
? Stability: It is achieved when the temperature is within the stability limit during the soaktime
? Soak Time: It sets the duration at which the temperature setpoint will be maintained before the scanning starts
8. After you finish setting up the items for the “Automated Test” press twice the F6 (back) button and the following screen will appear again:
9. Scroll down to “Auto recording”, edit this field and select “ON”
10. Scroll down to “File Destination”, edit this field and select “Internal” or “USB”. By selecting internal, the data will be recorded in the internal memory of the 1586A. On the other hand, by selecting USB you will need to insert a thumb drive memory device in the 1586A to record the data (see picture below).
11. Scroll down to “Sample Rate” and edit this field. It is the speed at which the channels are scanned. You can select Fast, Medium, or Slow.
12. Scroll down to “Data Security” and edit this field. If “yes” is picked the user will be prompted to enter a user profile number and a password. For more information about this please check the users manual in pg. 4-9
13. Temperature Unit, user can select °C or OMHS
14. Press the SCAN MONITOR key on the front panel and then press F1 (Start Scan), and the 1586A will run the test and record data.
15. Warning: The 1586A won't shut down the heat source at the end of the test, and the heat source will remain at the last temperature setpoint. We suggest adding one more point at the end of the test that could be 23°C (room temperature) so the heat source won't stay ON at the highest or lowest temperature setpoint. However, you can manually set the heat source to room temperature and then turn it off.
