This Article is about: IR Window Technical Information
- IR Windows are designed and tested in arc flash rated switchgear as a system. Ratings are given in amount of energy the IR Window can handle during an event with the window closed. There are no tests for individual windows by themselves for arc resistance.
- The reason for using an IR window is to avoid the worker from opening an electrical cabinet since that is the primary way a worker can be exposed to an Arch Flash. IR windows remove the need to open a cabinet for Thermal Camera inspection.
- IR Windows when installed properly should not circumvent the protection mechanisms of the cabinet for redirecting energy during an event. The other piece is following our templates and installation procedure.
- The IR Windows are made of Calcium Fluoride.
