This Article is about: Does the SMFT-1000 support High Efficiency Module applications.
I am interested in purchasing the SMFT-1000 Solar Tools Kit to measure I-V curves on PV modules/strings. The Isc of my modules is 5A, which is withing the tools measurement range, however these modules are high efficiency, known to have high capacitance leading to high inrush current. Would there be any issue with using the SMFT-1000 on high efficiency PV modules?
Answer: The SMFT-1000 has a 20A fuse and if the level exceeds that it will blow the fuse.
So yes, there would be an issue if the high efficiency PV module exceeded 20A.
It works well on modules below 19% efficiency.
The SMFT-1000 goes into overcurrent shutdown on modules above 20% efficiency.
If you need to test high-efficiency modules, we have another instrument model number PVA-1500HE2 and it's designed for the high-efficiency modules without any limitations.
