Versiv 2 - VNC Mode

As of firmware version 6.14, the Versiv2 units now fully support remote control via a VNC (Virtual Network Client).

Note: Versiv1 units are not compatible with this feature, and the VNC option will not be available even if the unit is updated to firmware 6.14.

You will need the tester and the PC to be on the same network, as well as VNC software on the PC. Fluke Networks recommends TightVNC for Windows computers. Other VNC clients (for example, ones meant for Android or iOS devices) are available and often able to be used, but Fluke Networks has not tested these other VNC software options. This article assumes you are using TightVNC on a Windows PC.

Enabling VNC mode

On your Versiv2 main's home screen, navigate to [TOOLS], and scroll down to [VNC] under "Maintenance Tools"

You will be presented with the following screen:

Tap ENABLE, and the device will restart. When it boots back up again, you will see a VNC logo in the top left corner of the screen, indicating that the device is now able to be connected to by a VNC software.

Connecting to a network

The Versiv2 must be connected to an network in order to be seen by VNC software. On your Versiv2 main's home screen, navigate to [TOOLS], and scroll down to [Network] under "Maintenance Tools".

Here, you may select a Wired connection or Wi-Fi connection. When properly connected, you will see an IPv4 address on screen. Take note of this, as it will be required to connect the VNC software to this particular tester. When this IP address is issued via DHCP, it may be different every time you connect, so it is best not to assume it will continue to use the IP address from a previous connection.

On your PC, make sure you are connected to the same network the Versiv2 tester is connected to. In this example, both the Versiv2 and PC are connected to FortiveGuest.

Using VNC software

Open TightVNC and enter the IPv4 address found in the Versiv2 tester in the field called "Remote Host". In this example, IP address 192.168.237.27 is used. Click [Connect].

When successfully connected, a new window will open showing a live view of Versiv2 device's screen.

The PC mouse may be used to click and select options, replicating a touch on the real touch screen.

In TightVNC, scrolling up and down with the mouse wheel does not scroll the screen itself (instead, it registers as a regular click/touch). The Up and Down arrow keys can instead be used to scroll up and down on the Versiv2's screen.

When you need to type into a text field on the tester, the PC's keyboard can be used. However, it does not enter correctly until the typing field has already been entered into. Click an on-screen key using the mouse, and you may then continue using the PC keyboard instead.

Disabling VNC mode

On your Versiv2 main's home screen, navigate to [TOOLS], and scroll down to [VNC] under "Maintenance Tools"

You will be presented with the following screen:

Tap DISABLE, and the device will restart. When it boots back up again, the VNC logo in the top left corner of the screen will have vanished, and VNC software can no longer connect to the Versiv2.
